The Veuve Clicquot Chalet

This time last week, I was hanging out in a chalet drinking a bottomless glass of Veuve Clicquot. NBD.

Who am I kidding, it was a really BIG DEAL!

I was given the opportunity to represent the online magazine, My Girlfriend Guide to Zurich, with whom I occasionally write articles, at an event sponsored by Veuve Clicquot. When they first emailed me the invite, I thought of all the reasons why I shouldn’t go. It was somewhat last minute, I’d have to change my schedule around, and let’s face it; I’m the epitome of not spontaneous. But then I knocked some sense into myself and realized there was no way to pass up a full day of drinking Veuve, in a chalet, in the beautiful mountain town of Verbier.

The other reason why I knew I had to go was because Veuve is not just any champagne to me. Veuve was my mom’s favorite champagne and since she passed away, we drink it in her honor every chance we get. We had it at her memorial, we served it at our wedding, we drink it on Christmas, New Years, birthdays, etc. It’s our family champagne and will always hold a special place in my heart. My mom wasn’t a fancy lady, but she had a fine taste for nice champagne.

I arrived at the gorgeous Cordee des Alps hotel to get checked in. I was greeted with some fun Veuve goodies upon arrival and shortly after, I headed to the lobby to catch the bus to the chalet. We arrived to the chalet, walking past a bright orange gondola, and entered the mud room. We took off our snow boots and slipped into some house slippers. We toured the five bedroom house, filled with Veuve in every room, in all shapes and sizes. Veuve bicycles (with a mini bottle in the water holder!), Veuve pillows, Veuve hats, umbrellas, blankets, skis… you get the picture. Between the Veuve paraphernalia and the cozy fire, I was seeing orange by the end of the day.

The best part of the day was our “snow surprise”. We put on our snow boots and headed to the mountain.

They told us if we wanted to drink more champagne at dinner, we had to find it ourselves. So, searching we went. The bottles had a tracker on them, which is normally used for off-piste skiers. We used our tracking device to locate the bottles and once we got close enough, we started digging. This was my kind of treasure hunt.

We ended the day with a wonderful Swiss meal, and finished it off with some Rosé champagne for dessert.

I feel fortunate to have gotten to experience such a unforgettable day trip and look forward to drinking plenty more orange bottles in my lifetime.

  1. Unbelievable. I think we need a few of those VEUVE cycles for Dunn East. You’re a lucky girl and I am glad your taking your NY Resolution to heart. Continue to have fun and be spontaneous.

  2. This is just too much fun! I love Veuve champagne! Can’t believe you got to visit the chalet! What a dream come true. But, I guess I’m a little spoiled with Domaine Chandon and Domaine Carneros so close by : )

I love that your mom loved Veuve champagne. Now, when I drink, it will remind me of Becky too. Hugs!

    1. I need to visit those! I can’t believe I haven’t taken more advantage of Napa. I guess I have something to look forward to when I get home 🙂

  3. So glad that you were able to do this…..love all the photos. Next time, see if you can bring a guest! I will be there! I think we should drink to that.

    1. If there’s a next time, I’ll be sure to let you know 🙂 Either way, we can drink some Veuve next time I see ya!
