Why Breakfast Makes Me a Champion

Sweet Potato Pancakes-3

{Sweet Potato Pancakes from the Winter Meal Plan}

I have a hard time understanding why people don’t eat breakfast. This is partly due to the fact that I am always hungry in the morning, and partly due to knowing how many benefits there are to eating breakfast. Recently, I have started to understand non-breakfast eaters a bit more, because as I’ve gotten older, I need about an hour after I wake up for the hunger to kick in. Before, I would wake up and go straight to the kitchen. Either way, there never goes a day that I don’t have breakfast…unless something is really wrong! I truly believe breakfast is an important meal of the day that should not be skipped, and it seems I’m not the only one that thinks so. Let me tell you why I’m an avid breakfast eater.

It’s part of my morning routine.

I find that having a morning routine is the best way for me to stay focused and have a productive day. If all goes well, I get up, make my bed, have a glass of lemon water while I journal, do yoga, then eat breakfast. I find if most of that happens, I’m off to a good start. After my shower, I’m ready to hit the ground running with whatever lies ahead.

It helps me make better choices.

When I eat a proper breakfast, I can usually last until lunchtime for my next meal. Though I find that if I wait too long to eat breakfast, I’m reaching for a piece of chocolate as soon as the ravenous hunger kicks in. Waiting too long to eat makes me want junk food, not my green smoothie. So, it’s better for me to stick to my routine and eat around the same time everyday in order to make better food choices.

It boosts my metabolism.

When you don’t eat for 12+ hours, your body goes into fasting mode, thus storing fat because it doesn’t know when it is going to get fuel (in the form of food) again. So I find that when I eat breakfast in the morning, it keeps my hunger levels even throughout the day, and keeps that metabolism of mine working like it should.

Do you eat breakfast? Why or why not?
